I'm really terrible when it comes to being artistic with the layout, so i'm not sure how to apply and striking colour (or where to apply it). I guess the biggest problem I have in terms of creating colour on the home page is that most of the elements can quite easily change in height as the content on the homepage changes on a regular basis.

a good looking site in my opinion using different tones of blue ain't a bad thing. But just a piece of suggestion since its a music related site make it a bit more lively and striking at first glance.

Personally, I think your color scheme is very good. I like blue and I don't think it is overpowering anywhere. Just another opinion.

from my viewpoint:
black background has to go.
footer to big.
menu boxes in the right has very blank background, they doesn't give life to your website, do somthing with that.
at the header - you can make flash logo - moving those sound diagrams up and down.
when browsing forums - very dull... addup some life, maybe collors maybe thumbnails or other accents of life.

Nice site. Well laid out, navigation is easy to understand. Minimalist works for me, hate those flash sites that waste my time and just skip them anyway and won't really call it minimalistic as there is a lot of content.
